Army in Negros recovers NPA firearms

CAMP PERALTA, Jamindan Capiz – Army troops from the 11th Infantry Battalion, 3rd Infantry Division based in Brgy McKinley, Guihulngan, Negros Oriental recovered three (3) firearms from members of the New People’s Army while conducting security operations early morning of Sunday April 19 in a remote Barangay in Guihulngan City.

At about 12:30 a.m. Sunday, the government troops received information from civilians on the presence of NPA remnants at Sitio Banderahan, Brgy Trinidad, Guihulngan City. According to the report, the NPA has been harassing the people and extorting from the civilians.

“We responded on the reported presence of lawless armed elements to prevent them from conducting terror activities against civilians,” said Lt Col Paulito Idul, Commanding Officer of 11IB.

The troops recovered one (1) M1 Garand Rifle, one (1) M1 Carbine, one (1) Cal .22 pistol and assorted live ammunitions left by the fleeing rebels.

Meanwhile, the Army lauds the residents of Guihulngan City for their cooperation in putting an end to the NPA threats and violence.

This is a manifestation of continued and active cooperation of the civilians by providing the Army with information on the presence of lawless armed elements in their communities.

Major General Rey Leonardo Guerrero, Commander of Army’s 3rd Infantry “Spearhead” Division commended the troops involved in the operation to protect the people.

“We continuously encourage and call upon those who have gone on the wrong path to lay down their arms and renounce armed violence. The solution is for us to work together in the spirit of Bayanihan. Together with other stakeholders, we will help you return to the folds of the law and live a peaceful life together with your families,” MGen Guerrero said.
