Lieutenant Junior Grade Reginal Balidoc, Philippine Navy of Naval Special Operations Group has achieved the second highest award, the Distinguished Conduct Star from the Armed Forces of the Philippines during the 81st AFP Anniversary on December 21, 2016 for leading a major operation against the Maute Group in Butig, Lanao del Sur last February 2016.
Balidoc is a 27-year old Navy officer who is a graduate of the Philippine Military Academy class of 2011.
“Ginawa ko lang ang trabaho ko as sundalo, as team leader, at saka as Naval Seal Operator,” said Balidoc.
Together with other awardees, he was acknowledged by President Rodrigo Roa Duterte during the ceremony for “[his] acts of conspicuous courage and gallantry in the face of an armed enemy during an encounter against more or less 50 Foreign and Local Terrorist Organization members under Omarkhayam and Abdullah Maute at the Ragayan, Butig, Lanao del Sur that inflicted heavy casualties to the enemy thereby showcasing extreme stability under fire and keeping up with the finest traditions of Filipino soldiery,” as the citation reads.
The Maute Group is an emerging terrorist group, led by Abdullah Maute, which was formed by the guerrillas of Moro Islamic Liberation Front who sparked an uprising against the government.
Balidoc, and other military personnel are continuously countering the Maute Group’s massive attacks; toppling down their destructive plans against the government and maintaining the security of the countrymen.
