Army deploys more troops for Marawi rehabilitation

The Philippine Army deployed additional troops to augment its initiatives in the ongoing rehabilitation efforts of war-devastated Marawi City.

The 12th Civil-Military Operation Battalion, Philippine Army along with “Hijab” troopers left Manila after a send-off ceremony at Villamor Air Base, Pasay City on Thursday, June 21, 2018.

The additional troops will be placed under operational control of the Joint Task Force Ranao.

The 12th Civil-Military Operation Battalion consists 105 soldiers troopers will be tasked to assist Joint Task Force Ranao in establishing a safe and secured environment to give way for the recovery, reconstruction, and rehabilitation (RRR) efforts undertaken by Task Force Bangon Marawi.

The said soldiers will also be tasked to focus in addressing the recruitment, exploitation of the youth, and espoused violent extremism undertaken by remnants of the ISIS-Maute terrorist group.

The 25 “Hijab” troopers will be tasked to help local government units and other concerned agencies in facilitating the needs and requirements of internally displaced persons, conduct peace education and psycho-social intervention in support of Joint Task Force Ranao’s civil-military operations.

They were called “Hijab Troopers”, because they wore Hijab head covers as a symbol of being one with the Muslim women and as a sign of respect for the Maranao communities.

“The Philippine Army will remain steadfast in performing its mandate, to serve the people and in securing the land. Despite of the prevailing security challenges, we will keep our word to support and extend our very best for the immediate recovery of Marawi,” said Philippine Army spokesperson Lt. Col. Louie Villanueva.

The 12th Civil Military Operations Battalion, together with additional Hijab Troopers arrived on the same day at the Laguindingan Airport, Cagayan De Oro City.

They soldiers were received by Col. Romeo Brawner, Deputy Commander of Joint Task Force Ranao.
