Building a Better Society Through Youth Leadership Summit

Youth Society is like an organism, an individual is a cell. If cells are good organism it is good naturally. With this premise, the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) believe that young people is like a good organism and or plant that when you cultivate, prune, and water it, they will grow naturally.

Through the years your AFP engages the youth sector through the YOUTH LEADERSHIP SUMMIT (YLS). This summit is an avenue for the AFP and Philippine National Police and other agencies to cascade their peace and development advocacies, likewise deepening nationalism and promoting responsible citizenry.

On May 25-30 2018, the Joint Task Force National Capital Region, Armed Forces of the Philippines (JTFNCR, AFP) through 7th Civil Relations Group, Civil Relations Service Armed Forces of the Philippines (7th CRG, CRSAFP) facilitated the 8th Regional Youth Leadership Summit (RYLS) composed of 63 Youth Leaders from the 15 cities and 1 municipality of Metro Manila.

RYLS’ prime objectives were to promote sensitivity in cultural and religious differences and building the culture of peace to sustain development in our society.49 Christians and 14 Muslims youth leaders participated in the training. Our Muslim brothers and sister while observing Ramadan, established rapport and harmonized relationship with the majority.

This training opened the door to a unique and remarkable training experience of our Youth Leaders extending acceptance, respect and understanding on the differences on culture and religious beliefs. Aside from the lectures provided, team building activities indeed mold and deepen their leadership skills and potentials while being sensitive and respectful to others’ perception and practices.

Thinking of it as a small society where the Christians are the majority and Muslims are the minority represents the whole of the Philippines where people are dynamic as well as the cultures, traditions and beliefs but it is never impossible to work together with unity because after all we are all Filipinos.
